Three things FSW applicants should know

PPR instead of portal emails

Outland FSW files end with a Passport Request - you submit your passport for a COPR (and visa if required), then complete landing at a port of entry.

Police certificates drive variance

Certificates are needed for every country lived in 6+ months in a row since age 18 - slow-issuing countries stretch the background-check window well past the typical range.

Visa office matters

FSW timelines, answered

How long does FSW take after AOR?+
IRCC's Express Entry service standard is 6 months for most complete applications from AOR. In community-tracked outland FSW files, final decisions most commonly land between months 5 and 7, with the PPR following within days to two weeks. Visa office and police-certificate speed cause most of the spread - the live official estimate is in IRCC's Check processing times tool.
Why is my FSW background check longer than CEC files?+
Multi-country residence histories mean more partner-agency checks and more police certificates. Background checks commonly run a month or more longer than comparable inland CEC files - long by itself is not a negative signal.
What is PPR for FSW applicants?+
Passport Request - the email after approval asking you to submit your passport so IRCC can issue your COPR and visa counterfoil. You then land at a Canadian port of entry before your COPR expires.
Can inland FSW applicants use this tracker?+
